The Shelter Home Hub

For twenty years, Interfaith Sanctuary has served thousands of our neighbors experiencing homelessness. We’ve provided safe shelter, warm meals, and a path forward.

And we’ve done it all in a 10,000 square foot warehouse: open dorms, no kitchen, bunk beds, eight bathrooms for 175 guests. Our programs were squeezed into tight corners.

Our guests have always deserved a space that surrounds them in the dignity and care they deserve. And now, at 4306 W. State Street, they finally have it.

We’ve done life-changing work in tight quarters. Imagine what’s possible when hope has room to breathe.

WHAT'S HAPPENING AT OUR SHELTER HOME?

Tune into our YouTube channel to see the community partnerships that have helped us move hope home.

WHAT IS THE STATE STREET SHELTER HOME?

Our new 42,500 square good Shelter Home is not a temporary fix, it’s an intentionally designed, trauma-informed, purpose built, full-services shelter home that greets every guest with the dignity they deserve.

Everything is under one roof: shelter, meals, medical care, mental health support, recovery programs, job training, and case management. Because the goal has always been to provide more than a bed. The goal is to provide the stability our guests deserve as they work toward permanent housing.

Keeping Families with Children Together

Families with children stay together in private suites, meaning there’s no more impossible choices between staying together or finding shelter. We have an early education classroom, a teen lounge, a family library, and an outdoor area where kids can just be kids.

Dedicated Rooms for People Ready for Permanent Housing

We  have a separate building for single individuals who are financially self-sustaining and actively working toward permanent housing. We call it Hope House, and it has 19 dedicated rooms for single men and women who are ready for housing of their own but waiting on their opportunity.

                                  On-Site Medical Care

Our medical dorm provides around-the-clock care and stability for guests facing serious health challenges, those who are too sick to be on the street but ineligible for inpatient care. For the first time, we can do direct intake from local hospitals and offer end-of-life care with the dignity every person deserves. Through partnerships with Terry Reilly Health Services and Full Circle Health, our guests have access to on-site exams, hospice care, and coordinated follow-up care.

Wraparound Support for Single Men and Women

In our main building, single men and women have access to small dorms with single beds for quieter, more dignified rest. We have dedicated classrooms for our recovery programs, mental health support, art therapy, and job training alongside our computer library, mailroom, laundry, and de-escalation room. Single adults have access to their own outdoor area with lockers, bike storage, a zen garden and community garden so they can relax in their own space.

                                                                  Mercy Kitchen: Nourishing our Community

For the first time since we were founded in 2005, we have a full kitchen! Mercy Kitchen brings fresh, prepared meals to our community dining room three times a day. No more food trailers or workarounds. Just a real meal at a real table.

All our Programs Under One Roof

Recovery support, mental health care, case management, job training, laundry rooms and showers open throughout the day. We even have a mailroom so that everyone has an address. In our custom-built facility, all of our life-changing program can exist together so that our guests are supported morning, noon, and night.

When people have safe shelter and the wraparound support they need to rebuild their lives, true transformation is possible. Families regain stability, kids can focus in school, individuals receive the care and support they deserve, and our entire community becomes healthier and safer.

                                                                                                  Our Commitment to our Neighbors

Were guests informed of the upcoming transition?

Yes. Interfaith Sanctuary has been communicating with current guests and community partners about the move to the new Shelter Home for months, including the fact that the intake process and capacity for single adults would change.

Shelters on the outskirts often create transportation challenges for residents, increasing isolation and making reintegration and employment harder. The goal isn’t just shelter—it’s permanent housing. A well-run, centrally located shelter can work more effectively with housing agencies to transition guests into stable living situations, rather than just managing homelessness in multiple remote locations.

Interfaith Sanctuary’s new shelter is designed to serve more individuals by providing separate spaces for families, single adults, and those with medical needs, rather than forcing people to choose between safety and services.

Are any guests staying at the former site?

Yes. Interfaith Sanctuary’s move is intentionally phased. Guests remaining at the emergency shelter continue to be served while the transition continues. This phased approach minimizes disruption and ensures every group is oriented to the new space, policies, expectations, and procedures in a dignified and supportive way, minimizing trauma.

Is there a waitlist for the new Shelter Home?

Yes. Interfaith Sanctuary partnered with Find Help Idaho to create an online waitlist system. Individuals seeking shelter can add their name to Interfaith Sanctuary’s waitlist and a staff member will reach out directly when a bed becomes available to begin the intake process.

Has Interfaith Sanctuary had to turn away guests in the days since the transition began?

Because the new Shelter Home has 105 beds for single adults, compared to approximately 180 in the former emergency shelter dorm configuration, Interfaith Sanctuary is not able to immediately accommodate every person seeking shelter. The waitlist system ensures people are contacted in an orderly, trauma-informed way as beds become available.

Does Interfaith Sanctuary currently have lower overall capacity during the transition?

Interfaith Sanctuary’s capacity for single adults is lower than the former emergency shelter dorm-style model. However, Interfaith Sanctuary’s capacity for families with children has significantly increased with dedicated family shelter space. The phased move means overall capacity is being carefully balanced with operational readiness and guest well-being as the new Shelter Home comes fully online.

What should someone do if they are seeking shelter?

Visit findhelpidaho.org to add your name to Interfaith Sanctuary’s waitlist and view other immediate options in the Treasure Valley.
