Deeds on the Street: Servant Hearts

By Molly Balison

On Monday January 20, shelter guests banded together to cook and serve lunch to the Interfaith Sanctuary staff to show their appreciation for their service. The act of kindness was inspired by the Deeds on the Street initiative born out of a Word on the Street meeting.

Eric Endsley and Nate Dodgson, contributing writers and shelter guests, prepped bowls of chili and plates of loaded baked potatoes, salad and cinnamon rolls in the food trailer where the hot meals are prepared for shelter guests every night. Other shelter guests served the staff members gathered around a table one by one and extended thanks for all they do to keep the shelter operating.

Dodgson said, “I learned that one of the most worthwhile pursuits and things to do is to serve others. People really do take notice and it spreads positivity. ”
