Interfaith Sanctuary’s capital campaign for their new shelter on State Street has reached a significant milestone with the receipt of two $1 million donations, plus an additional $1 million matching gift.

The Tom and Mary Tomlinson Family Foundation has just announced a $1 million matching gift specifically earmarked for the construction of the New Family Shelter Building. This facility is designed to serve 101 family members, including rooms for cribs, designed so families can stay together in private rooms. The building will also feature an early education classroom, teen lounge, family library, computer/study room, family dining area, laundry facilities, a mailroom, and programming focused on employment, parenting, finances, housing, nutrition, and more. Additionally, the shelter will include a beautiful garden, playground, green space, and activity area for children to enjoy.

David Turnbull, representing the Tom and Mary Tomlinson Family, is challenging the community to join them in meeting this match. Turnbull stated, “We love our community and know the importance of vulnerable kids getting the support they need to heal, learn, and grow. We are excited to make it possible for Idaho’s families with children to get the help they need through the generosity of Idahoans.”

August proved to be an exceptional month for the campaign. An anonymous donor contributed $1 million, followed by a $1 million grant from the J.A. & Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation (JKAF). With deep roots in Idaho, JKAF’s mission is to accelerate opportunities in Idaho. “The J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation has been supportive of Interfaith Sanctuary and its offering of work training programs for its guests,” said Roger Quarles, Executive Director. “We hope this new campus enhances opportunities for Idahoans experiencing homelessness.”

Construction of Interfaith Sanctuary’s new shelter on State Street began in April of this year, thanks to the support of generous donors and a crucial construction loan from Heritage Bank. This loan ensures that the project, which carries a total cost of $15.6 million, remains fully funded as the capital campaign continues.

Tom and Mary Tomlinson Family Foundation’s $1 Million Dollar Match is a dollar-for-dollar match.  Starting now, your donation will have double the impact, with every dollar going directly to Interfaith Sanctuary’s New Family Shelter Building.
