As the weather gets colder, our hearts and spirits should grow warmer. In what ways could this mean? There is a plethora of ways which we, as a community and family, may achieve in uplifting the spirits of those we come across and interact with. A simple “hello” or “good morning” might be all it requires for an individual or group to receive basic courtesy and acknowledgement. Communication, eye contact, as well as active listening will allow us to engage effectively on a personal level. We need to get out of our self in order to open and receive. Receive what?
The opportunity for connections and wholesomeness in ourselves and amongst each other: the fact of the matter is we are neither meant to be nor feel alone. Anyone who thinks they can make it through this life without the support and help from others is going to experience and learn that this is just not true. Community and family are greater than the sum of all its parts. Further meaning: there is power in connection. The deeper we go, the more we grow and rise above the shallow tread and stunted soul which dwindles in apprehension or superficiality.
One does not necessitate charismatic enchantment when it comes to joining and building-up others. Genuineness is where the real and true magic finds its source. This requires openness, honesty, and care. Be vulnerable, be selfless, and be the best you. The human family can overcome defects, weaknesses, and shortcomings by coming together and growing together from a common standpoint and reality- the reality that noneof us are sovereign or exempt when it comes to our inherent influence and being. What if we could, not only survive, but also thrive in our world? The idea is a very real movement and unleashes a concept from a state of obscurity to a birth and spring of expressive unity and harmony. We can neither survive alone nor thrive in isolation. Engagement, or even the simple and unsophisticated company of each other’s presence can comfort and even inspire a warming affection of shared hope.
This holiday season, I ask and call on everyone to remember what’s truly important for our community and meaning. Make someone’s day by offering the fulfillment of each and every person’s basic need. Even if that means, simply and plainly, your presence.
