What is Love?

By Molly Balison

In a world where it’s easy to see hate, destruction, division, brokenness and negativity on a daily basis, it may seem like there’s no love left. But it’s all around us if we open our eyes and our hearts to receive it.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” This is how 1 Corinthians 14: 3-8 in the Bible defines love. What would the world look like if we chose to love this radically?

As a WOTS team, we reflected on what we think love looks like. Viola Crowley shared a writing of hers titled “What is Love?”

“Love is an emotion that keeps people bonded and committed to one another.

Love is passion, intimacy and commitment.

Love is not pain, anger or submission.

When you love someone, you should be helping each other to reach your goals.

When you love someone, you should be showing each other compassion and positive attention.

You should NOT be hurting each other, holding each other back or tearing each other down.

Let go of the negative.

Embrace the positive.

Live life happy, honest and fulfilled.”

Here is what love looks like to our team:
